Level 4 Necromancy
Casting Time: 1 minute
Range:30 feet
Components:V, S, M (Burning incense, milk, honey, 1 black ram)
Duration: 10 minutes
You conjure the spirit of a corpse of your choice within range, allowing it to answer questions you pose. The spirit must have had a mouth when it was alive, and this spell fails if the deceased creature was Undead when it died. The spell also fails if the spirit was the target of this spell within the past 10 days. This spell can contact a spirit that is at rest, but not if the spirit is protected from contact by any other effect or spell.
Until the spell ends, you can ask the spirit up to five questions. The spirit knows what it knew in life, including the languages it knew. The spirit may also simulate the effects of Clairvoyance to answer questions about current events and Augury to answer questions about the future. Answers are usually brief, cryptic, or repetitive, and the spirit is under no compulsion to offer a truthful answer if you are antagonistic toward it or it recognizes you as an enemy. This spell doesn’t return the creature’s soul to its body. You interact with the ghostly spirit which, in the case of heroes, may be much larger than their mortal bodies. The spirit is disinterested in most things that have happened since it died, though it may be concerned with the dealings of its descendants, its lands, or a cherished object.
