This spell puts you in contact with a god or a god’s servant (known as a daemon). You ask one question about a specific goal, event, or activity to occur within 7 days. The DM offers a truthful reply, which might be a short phrase or cryptic rhyme. The spell doesn’t account for circumstances that might change the answer, such as the casting of other spells.
If you cast the spell more than once before finishing a Long Rest, there is a cumulative 25 percent chance for each casting after the first that you get no answer.
Alternate Casting (Helios). You cast this spell at sunrise and use laurel leaves, virgin earth, wormwood seeds, wheat meal, and calf snout herbs. Shave your head and wrap the hairs in a papyrus scroll.
Alternate Casting (Aphrodite). You gaze into a white saucer or cup filled with water and olive oil. You must keep yourself pure for seven days before casting this version.
Alternate Casting (any deity).You gaze into a bronze vessel containing water and olive oil. You must be under the effects of Protection from Good and Evilor you will take 4d6 Necrotic damage from the creature you conjure and you will not receive any prophecy.
Alternate Casting (any deity). You cast this spell before sleeping and the daemon appears in your dreams.
